A MADISON COUNTY MEMORIAL HOSPITAL EMPLOYEE HAS TESTED POSITIVE FOR COVID-19

Tammy Stevens, CEO of MCMH announced on June 1 that over the weekend she was notified that a MCMH employee tested positive for COVID-19.  The employee has not worked at the hospital since May 25.  Our hospital expresses heartfelt concern for the employee and reports the employee is doing well.

On Sunday, May 31 the hospital notified the Florida Department of Health of Madison. On June 1, the hospital notified the Agency for Health Care Administration.  Ms. Stevens reports no employee or hospitalized patient has shown any signs or symptoms of COVID-19 of those the employee came in contact; however, testing and surveillance is underway.  Under the direction of Dr. Brett Perkins, MCMH Chief Medical Officer, as he leads the COVID-19 MCMH team, the hospital is continuing to take all necessary precautions to protect the patients and the employees.

Ms. Stevens reported in March the hospital implemented one point of entry into the facility for employees and a health screening for all persons entering the facility. This practice continues. The employees are encouraged not to enter any department they are not directly assigned to work to comply with social distancing and to minimize the risk of exposure.  In addition to wearing a face mask at all times in the facility, employees (clinical and non-clinical) are required to wear protective eye goggles when in the presence of a patient.  As of March 14, per the Governor’s orders, visitation continues to be restricted since the hospital operates a swingbed program. There are allowances for special circumstances.

Ms. Stevens reported at this time, of the 70 COVID-19 tests performed by MCMH, five emergency room patients have had a confirmed positive test result.  None of these patients were admitted to MCMH.  The hospital continues to practice strict infection control guidelines.

The hospital requests your continued support and assistance as we continue to manage the spread of COVID-19 in our community.
